Search For Knife Near Downtown Victoria After Early Morning Attack

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Dec, 2015 04:29 PM
VICTORIA — A homeless camp in Victoria is behind yellow tape as police investigate a stabbing in the area.

Police say one person is in custody, but they're still looking for a knife used in the assault early Thursday.

Officers are urging the public not to touch the weapon, and immediately call 911 if they spot it in an area around the downtown core, close to the Victoria courthouse and the homeless camp.

The victim has had surgery and remains in hospital for what detectives describe as non-life threatening injuries.

The attack occurred just before 4 a.m. in the 800 block of Burdette Avenue, and police say they chased a man through several alleys and parking lots before arresting him.

Investigators are not saying what may have sparked the violence, but believe it is an isolated incident.
