Nigeria offers $300,000 for information on missing schoolgirls

Darpan News Desk IANS, 07 May, 2014 10:46 AM
Nigeria's government Wednesday announced a 50 million-naira ($300,000) reward to anyone who can give credible information leading to the rescue of over 230 schoolgirls abducted by Islamist rebels.

Police disclosed this as a way of encouraging people to provide information, which can help rescue the kidnapped girls, the Nigerian Tribune reported.

Islamist militant group Boko Haram Monday claimed responsibility for the abductions last month.

The girls were kidnapped from the dormitory of Government Secondary School, Chibok, on the night of April 14.

On Sunday, 11 more girls were abducted from villages close to a nearby forest.

The US has deployed military experts in the hunt for the schoolgirls.
