Ministers To Put Dollars, Marijuana On Health Agenda With Ottawa

The Canadian Press, 21 Jan, 2016 11:55 AM
VANCOUVER — Issues from increased funding to marijuana will be on the table when the provincial and territorial health ministers meet with their federal counterpart today in Vancouver.

The ministers say they'll be asking Federal Health Minister Jane Philpott to boost Ottawa's share of health spending to at least 25 per cent of their budgets.

Top officials from across the country gathered yesterday to hash out their agendas, but were unable to reach further consensus around health transfers.

B.C. Health Minister Terry Lake says they agreed to ask Philpott for direction on doctor-assisted dying and marijuana legalization.

The parties have signalled they want to build a better relationship with the new Liberal government.

Ontario Health Minister Eric Hoskins says today's meeting will be their opportunity, but that doesn't mean Philpott will get a free pass.
