ESQUIMALT, B.C. — A member of a military helicopter squadron based near Victoria has been seriously injured in an industrial accident.
A spokesperson for CFB Esquimalt says the accident happened Monday at 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron, based at Victoria International Airport.
The base commander, Capt. Steve Waddell, has ordered a full investigation.
The name, rank and occupation of the injured person were not provided in a news release from the base, but it said the man's family has been notified.
The Royal Canadian Air Force website says 443 squadron has six CH-124 Sea King helicopters that support the navy's Pacific fleet, based in Esquimalt.
The helicopters are used to combat drug, fisheries and environmental violations in Canadian waters and have also been used for peacekeeping, humanitarian and naval operations internationally.
