Militants bomb school in Pakistan

Darpan News Desk IANS, 27 Oct, 2014 07:13 AM
Militants Monday bombed a school in Pakistan's Khyber Agency.

The attackers had planted the explosives in the building of the Government Primary School in Akakhel area, and the explosion completely destroyed it, Dawn online reported.

    However, no casualties were reported.

With the escalation in clashes between security forces and Lashkar-i-Islam (LI) militants and intensified shelling from insurgent hideouts, local residents were left with no other option but to leave their homes despite the imposition of a curfew.

Pakistan's military launched an operation named 'Khyber-1' last week with air strikes against LI hideouts in areas under the Mangal Bagh-led group's control.

Khyber is one of Pakistan's seven semi-autonomous tribal districts near the Afghan border, rife with homegrown insurgents and foreign militants. They are also home to religious, extremist organisations including Al Qaeda.
