The Canadian Press, 10 Mar, 2017 12:56 PM
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — RCMP say a male has been taken into custody after an incident today at the emergency department of the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, B.C.

Insp. Sunny Parmar says the male barricaded himself inside an emergency room.

Parmar says officers were called to the hospital shortly after 11 a.m. after receiving reports about a distraught male.

He says staff and patients at the hospital were not at risk before officers were able to de-escalate the situation.

Darshan Lindsay, communications director for the Interior Health authority, says the emergency room continued to see patients while the incident was ongoing.
