Indian-Origin Man Found Guilty Of Killing Mother In Singapore

IANS, 12 Aug, 2015 12:12 PM
Singapore court has found an Indian-origin man guilty of killing his mother three years ago, a media report said.

Sujay Solomon Sutherson, who has a history of paranoid schizophrenia, said he killed his mother in self-defence, The Straits Times reported on Wednesday, adding that Judicial Commissioner of the High Court Hoo Sheau Peng rejected his account on Tuesday.

The judicial commissioner said that even if she accepted the man's account of how his mother, Jesudasan, had attacked him, he could not claim self-defence, which can be pleaded only when an accused person is faced with assault that is likely to cause death or grievous hurt.

According to Sutherson, who is jobless, he knifed his mother in self-defence because she grabbed his hair and scratched him after he rejected her request for money.

Sujay faces either life imprisonment with caning or up to 20 years in jail and caning or fine. He will be sentenced next month.
