Indian-Origin Artist Tiffany Singh's Work To Be Displayed In New Zealand

The Canadian Press, 22 Sep, 2015 12:40 PM
An Indian-descent artist's works based on her understanding of Buddhism will be put on display at Auckland's Fo Guang Shan Temple and Malcolm Smith Gallery from September 27 to November 19, a media report said.

The multi-sensory exhibition, 'Mahabhuta: The Great Element', will showcase 12 works of Tiffany Singh, who sources all the materials for her art works from nature, stuff.co.nz reported on Tuesday.

"Everything is nature based or responding to the elements. I do not work with anything synthetic, so I work with materials such as flowers, foods and colours," Singh was quoted as saying.

Her signature work is an installation consisting of 900 ribbons with the Buddha healing mantra written on them.

The 37-year-old artist said she grew up without any influence from her ethnicity. But found refuge in eastern philosophy when she travelled to India, where she studied Hinduism and Buddhism.

"That encouraged me to understand how the process of art making can be a tool for education, empowerment and to generate dialogue around social issues," Singh said.
