Indian woman gets life term for killing minor in Dubai

Darpan News Desk IANS, 18 Nov, 2014 11:34 AM
A 30-year old Indian nanny was sentenced to life by the Dubai Court of First Instance for killing an 11-month old British baby girl in January.

The 30-year-old nanny, identified only with her intials R.T., strangled the baby with her scarf when the her parents left for work Jan 18. The forensic report confirmed that the girl was strangled to death with a scarf.

Presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat Monday convicted R.T. of premeditated murder and sentenced her to life in prison, Gulf News reported.

“The accused will be deported following the completion of her punishment,” said judge Abdul Lat in the court.

"I did not kill that baby, whom I loved like my own child. I am a mother of two kids and there is no way on earth I could have done such a thing,” said the nanny as she wept when she entered her plea.

She allegedly wrapped the baby’s neck and gagged her with her hand to stop her from making any noise. The accused then continued her daily house work as normal not caring that the baby was lying motionless on her bed.

A police official said that the accused confessed that she killed the baby because she was in hard conditions after her mother passed away in India one month earlier.

"She claimed her sponsor refused to send her back because he wanted her to take care of his baby and had spent lots of money to bring her to the country.”

The victim's mother is originally from India but holds British citizenship.
