Indian, Nepal army chiefs discuss military ties

    The army chief of India and Nepal Wednesday discussed military cooperation, soon after Indian Army chief Dalbir Singh arrived here on a four-day visit.
     
    After laying a wreath at the Bir Smarak memorial, Gen. Dalbir Singh held talks with Nepal's army chief, Gen. Gaurav Sumsher Rana, at the Nepal Army headquarters, said a Nepal Army statement.
     
    The two discussed bilateral military cooperation and matters of mutual interest. 
     
    On Thursday, Gen. Singh will be conferred with the honorary title of Nepal Army General by President Ram Baran Yadav. 
     
    Later, he will call on the president and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, who has the defence portfolio. 
     
    Also Thursday, he will visit the Nepal Army-run Birendra Peace Operations Training Centre where the Nepal Army trains peacekeepers along with international peacekeepers. 
     
    On Friday, Gen. Singh will visit Mustang where he will inspect the Nepal Army-run high-altitude training academy, and is scheduled to visit the Indian Pension Camp Office in Pokhara. 
     
    He will also visit the Western Command Office of Nepal Army in Pokhara. 
     
    In the evening, Gen. Singh will host a reception in honour of his counterpart. Gen. Singh will leave for India Nov 15.
