India visit productive and positive: Putin

Darpan News Desk IANS, 12 Dec, 2014 11:16 AM
Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday said his two-day visit to India earlier this week was productive and positive.

In a meeting here with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council, Putin described his India visit Dec 10-11 as "productive and positive from the viewpoint of further development of cooperation", Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov later said in a statement.

Russia inked 20 agreements with India, including in the sphere of defence cooperation, oil and gas, and trade, after the holding of the 15th India-Russia annual summit in New Delhi.

Among the 20 agreements inked was a formal contract between the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and Atomstroyexport, Russia's nuclear power equipment and service export monopoly, for units 3 and 4 at Kudankulam nuclear power plant, Putin informed the Security Council meeting.

Putin's visit and the agreements with India came as the Russian economy is buffeted by Western sanctions over Ukraine and the rouble slumping following the slide in oil prices.

The Security Council meeting was attended by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, top security council officials, foreign intelligence service chief Mikhail Fradkov, and permanent member of the Russian Security Council Boris Gryzlov.
