Imran Khan to hold rally in Lahore Sep 28

Darpan News Desk IANS, 24 Sep, 2014 10:53 AM
Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has been allowed to organise a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore this Sunday, Geo News reported Wednesday.

The district administration has also written to Lahore's Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) for foolproof security arrangements.

PTI will not be stopped from holding a public gathering in Lahore after the party submitted an application to the district coordination officer seeking permission, Rana Mashhood, Punjab province's law minister, said.

Security officer at Minar-e-Pakistan, Muhammad Zameer said there are security threats at the venue and due to that barbed wires have been placed around the vicinity.

Spread over 55 acres of land, the monument has the capacity to accommodate four million people, officials said.

Imran Khan and Tahir-ul Qadri's Pakistan Awami Tehreek have been staging anti-government protests since Aug 15 and holding a big sit-in in Islamabad, seeking Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's resignation over alleged rigging in the 2013 general election.
