Health Canada Says Unauthorized Drugs Seized From Retailers In Ontario And B.C.

  • Health Canada Says Unauthorized Drugs Seized From Retailers In Ontario And B.C.
OTTAWA — Health Canada says unauthorized drugs have been seized from retailers in Ontario and British Columbia.

The agency says the five unauthorized drugs may pose serious risks because they were labelled as containing prescription drugs or narcotics or were found to contain a prescription drug that was not listed on the label.

Health Canada says drugs that contain prescription drug ingredients should only be taken under the supervision of a health professional because they are used to treat specific diseases, and may cause serious side effects.

Unauthorized drugs are those which haven't been approved by Health Canada, meaning they have not been assessed for their safety, effectiveness and quality.

Health Canada says Mega Power — which contained a prescription drug not listed on the label — was seized from a Vancouver retailer, while Herba Pini Syrop — which listed codeine on the label — was seized from stores in the Ontario communities of Mississauga and Barrie.

Also seized from the Barrie retailer were Biseptol 480, Naproxen Emo and Oxycort, which had a prescription drug listed on the product label.
