Half of British teenagers are internet addicts

Darpan News Desk IANS, 09 May, 2014 02:23 PM
Is your 15-year-old child hooked to internet most of the time, especially in the early hours? He belongs to a growing breed of such teenagers across the globe.

According to a British survey, nearly 50 percent of teenagers in the age group 14-15 years feel they are addicted to internet.

Over three-quarters of same-age students took a laptop, a smart phone or a tablet to bed at night, said the survey done on more than 2,200 students in nine schools across England and Scotland.

More than four out of 10 girls said they used internet on a compulsive basis for socialising, said the survey by non-profit Tablets for Schools.

Apart from emails, the most commonly used web sites at home were social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat, said a report that appeared in the Guardian.

While most students told researchers they were positive about internet, a number expressed alarm at their apparent inability to disengage.
