Federal Government Announces $39Million Funding Boost For Banff National Park Projects

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 17 Mar, 2016 12:08 PM
BANFF, Alta. — The federal government plans to spend $39 million to restore habitat and upgrade facilities and programs in Banff National Park.

Environment Minister Catherine McKenna is making the commitment this morning in Alberta.

She says most of the money will go to restore ecosystems damaged by wildfires.

Some of the money will go to refurbish underpasses along the Trans-Canada Highway that allow animals to move safely across the busy road.

It will also fund programs to give visitors an experience of the indigenous history of the area.

Banff is Canada's most popular national park and welcomed 3.8 million visitors last year.
