Edmonton Student Unaccounted For In France; University 'Very Concerned'

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 15 Jul, 2016 12:21 PM
EDMONTON — An Edmonton university says one of its students is missing after a deadly truck attack in France.

MacEwan University says five students and one faculty member were in the resort city of Nice participating in a program at the European Innovation Academy.

Four students and the staff member are safe. One student, however, remained unaccounted for Friday.

"We are very concerned and are currently working with the government of Canada to get further details on his status," the school said in a statement.

Canada's ambassador to France, Lawrence Cannon, had previously tweeted that no Canadian casualties were reported after the truck filled with weapons plowed into a crowd of Bastille Day revellers late Thursday.

At least 84 people were killed.

French police have identified the attacker as Mohamed Bouhlel, a 31-year-old Tunisian who lived in Nice.
