Don't Discriminate Among Terror Groups: US Tells Pakistan

Darpan News Desk IANS, 26 Aug, 2016 12:30 PM
United States of America today called out Pakistan for not ensuring that there are no safe havens for terrorists in the country. It also stressed on the need for Pakistan to not differentiate between terror groups based on their agenda or affiliation.

"We have consistently raised our concerns at the highest level of government of Pakistan on the need to deny safe haven to extremists," said Elizabeth Trudeau, the State Department spokesperson.

Ms Trudeau also reminded Islamabad of the promise of Pakistan Army Chief Raheel Sahrif that it won't discriminate between terrorists.

"We have pressed the Government of Pakistan to follow up on their expressed commitment, their stated commitment, to not discriminate among terror groups regardless of their agenda or affiliation," she said.

Afghanistan has accused Pakistan based militants for the attack on the American University in Kabul on Wednesday, which claimed 16 lives. Ms Trudeau said that the attack on the university was against the best and the brightest of Afghanistan, and a sign "that we can all do more."

"As we have in the past, we encourage the governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan to work together, not only in the wake of this attack, and to ensure that such attacks don't happen again, but to increase their cooperation countering violent extremism at large," Ms Trudeau said.
