Dinosaur skeleton displayed in Dubai mall

Darpan News Desk IANS, 11 Mar, 2014 01:46 PM
The skeleton of a 155 million-year-old dinosaur has been put on permanent display at a mall in Dubai.

The fossil, placed at the Grand Atrium in The Dubai Mall, was unveiled for the public Monday. It dates back to the late Jurassic period and is 24.4 metres long and 7.6 metres high, The National reported.

“What you will see is a fossil that is not only 155 million years old but also 90 percent original, which is very rare,” said Mohammed Al Abbar, founding member and chairman of The Dubai Mall.

The fossil of this dinosaur, known as Diplodocus Longus, is that of a female. The skeleton was discovered in 2008 at a quarry in Wyoming, US.

The fossil was displayed at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and was sourced to The Dubai Mall by Khalid Seddiq, the founder of Etihad Modern Art Gallery in Abu Dhabi.
