Chinese citizens get more power to sue government

Darpan News Desk IANS, 01 Nov, 2014 08:00 AM
  • Chinese citizens get more power to sue government
China Saturday adopted an amendment to expand the people's right to sue the government.

Members of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress passed the amendment to the Administrative Procedure Law through a vote at the bi-monthly legislative session, reported Xinhua.

According to the amendment, courts will launch administrative proceedings if the government is sued for violating agreements on land, housing compensation and commercial operations.

The amendment says courts should order authorities to follow contracts or give compensation if they breach it.

The revision compels defendants - representatives of the administrations concerned - to personally appear before the court. Those who refuse to appear without legitimate reasons or leave the court during the trial without approval may face additional punishment.
