IANS, 20 Jan, 2017 12:24 PM
In a tragic incident, a six-year- old boy died after he fell and drowned into a sewer while chasing his cricket ball in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar on Thursday, police said.

They said Raja Babu, who used to stay with his parents and younger sister in Hauz Rani area, was playing with his friends when his cricket ball fell into the sewer.

He went to the sewer to retrieve the ball but fell down while he was trying to take it out, said a senior police officer, adding his friends could not come to his help.

After about an hour, three persons passing by the sewer saw him floating and they raised an alarm and fished him out, he said.

A PCR call was made and he was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

His parents were also informed and the body has been preserved for post-mortem at AIIMS mortuary, police said.

Proceedings under section 174 CrPC have been initiated.

Police said that locals alleged that they have complained to PWD about the broken wall of the sewer but no action has been taken.

However, police said that they are investigating which agency is responsible for maintenance of the sewer.

The victim's father works as a tailor and the family originally belongs to Bihar.
