CFIA Announces Cantaloupe Recall Due To Possible Salmonella Contamination

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 19 Feb, 2016 12:53 PM
VANCOUVER — Canada's food safety watchdog has announced a recall of cantaloupes due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says Freshpoint Vancouver Ltd. is recalling Del Monte and Sysco Imperial Fresh-brand cantaloupes.

The recalled fruit has been sold in B.C., Alberta and Manitoba, and possibly across the country.

There have been no reported illnesses linked to the fruit but consumers are being told to either throw it out or return it to the store.

The CFIA says retailers, restaurants, hotels and institutions should not sell, serve or use the products.

Salmonella bacteria can cause serious and possibly deadly infections in young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.

The agency says healthy people can suffer fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, cramps and diarrhea.
