Canadian Flights Scheduled To Mexico Resume After Hurricane Patricia Weakens

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Oct, 2015 02:23 PM
Flights between Canada and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico are expected to get back to normal Sunday after the resort community was spared a direct hit from hurricane Patricia.

Ontario native Arthur Fumerton lives in Puerto Vallarta and says the weather is beautiful and sunny today, hours after the Category 5 storm made landfall Friday night.

Fumerton says he put duct tape on his windows and hunkered down to ride out what was supposed to be the worst hurricane ever recorded in the western world, but Patricia weakened rapidly after coming ashore in a relatively low-populated stretch of the Jalisco state coast near Cuixmala.

Fears of gale-force winds and torrential rains closed Puerto Vallarta's airport, forcing WestJet to cancel one flight on Friday and five on Saturday.

Spokesman Robert Palmer says the airline will operate six flights to Puerto Vallarta on Sunday and 700 passengers have been placed on those flights.

Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick says a Sunday flight from Toronto to the Mexican vacation destination will go ahead as scheduled.
