800 homeless families demand shelter in Sao Paulo

Darpan News Desk IANS, 23 Jun, 2014 11:04 AM
At least 800 homeless Brazilian families have occupied a tract in the luxurious district of Morumbi, demanding shelter here.

The families started flocking into the tract Saturday after pitching 600 tents, reports EFE.

Earlier in May, more than 1,500 families sought shelter in an area located 4 km from the Arena Corinthians, one of the stadiums hosting the FIFA World Cup.

Brazil has been witnessing protests against the huge World Cup expenditure on building and renovating stadiums.
