16 Indians Targeted In Hate Crimes In Three Years

Darpan News Desk IANS, 03 Dec, 2015 11:20 AM
Sixteen Indians were targeted in 'hate crimes' in foreign countries in the last three years, including seven this year, Minister of State for Overseas Indian Affairs V.K. Singh said on Thursday.

"As per information received on hate crimes against Indians from 178 Indian missions/posts as on November 30, 2015, Indian missions in only five countries have reported hate crimes against Indians in the last three years," V.K. Singh said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

While four Indians were subjected to hate crimes in Poland in 2013, two were targeted in Lithuania, two in Poland and one in Britain in 2014.

This year, till November 30, three Indians were targeted in hate crimes in Germany, one in Poland and three in the US.

The minister, however, said that the Lithuanian government has disputed that the incident in that country in 2014 was a hate crime.
