Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 20 Nov, 2015 09:16 PM
WINNIPEG — A whisky made in Manitoba is the best in the globe, according to an expert.

Jim Murray's "Whisky Bible" names Crown Royal’s Northern Harvest Rye as the World Whisky of the Year for 2016.

    It’s made in Gimli.

Murray's website says it is the first time a Canadian product has won the top prize in his "Whisky Bible".

He says he tasted more than 1,000 new whiskies before making his announcement and gives Northern Harvest Rye 97.5 out of 100 points.

Murray, who is based in the United Kingdom, says Canada is rarely mentioned when it come to the world’s top whiskies.

"I have no doubt people finding the bottling I tasted will be blown away with this whisky’s uncompromising and unique beauty," he says on the website. "It certainly puts the rye into Canadian rye." (CJOB, The Canadian Press)
