Veteran Canadian Journalist Morley Safer Remembered For 'Remarkable Career'

The Canadian Press, 19 May, 2016 12:05 PM
TORONTO — The late Morley Safer is being remembered for a "remarkable career" that placed the veteran Canadian journalist on the front lines of landmark news events.

CTV chief correspondent and "W5" host Lloyd Robertson had the chance to meet with the recently retired "60 Minutes" correspondent on several occasions over the years.

Robertson describes Safer as a "legend" for his intrepid reporting during the Vietnam War.

The Toronto-born Safer began his career at several news organizations in Canada and England — including the CBC —before being hired by the wire service Reuters in its London bureau.

He also worked for nine years with the CBC's London bureau before he was hired by CBS News, where he would spend the rest of his career.

Safer died Thursday at age 84.
