Translink To Pause Morgan Freeman Skytrain Announcements Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

IANS, 24 May, 2018 01:26 PM
Morgan Freeman has been accused of sexually inappropriate behaviour and harassment by eight women, according to a report by CNN.

The women accused the veteran actor of touching them without consent, making inappropriate comments about their bodies, unwanted staring and even attempting to lift their skirts.

From production assistants to staff at Revelations Entertainment, CNN got in touch with many women associated with Morgan Freeman in a professional capacity and most of them have described his behaviour as inappropriate.

“In all, 16 people spoke to CNN about Freeman as part of this investigation, eight of whom said they were victims of what some called harassment and others called inappropriate behaviour by Freeman.

Eight said they witnessed Freeman’s alleged conduct. These 16 people together described a pattern of inappropriate behaviour by Freeman on set, while promoting his movies and at his production company Revelations Entertainment.” the report read.

A senior member of the production staff on the 2012 movie ‘Now You See Me’ also claimed that Freeman had “sexually harassed her and her female assistant on numerous occasions by making comments about their bodies.”

Another woman, a young production assistant who worked on the sets of 2015’s ‘Going In Style’, alleged that the 80-year-old touched her without consent and made comments about her figure. She claimed that on one occasion he “kept trying to lift up my skirt and asking if I was wearing underwear.”

Revelations Entertainment was founded by Morgan Freeman and producer Lori McCreary in 1996.

TransLink pauses campaign featuring Morgan Freeman after allegations surface

VANCOUVER — Metro Vancouver's transit authority is pressing pause on a promotional campaign featuring Morgan Freeman following a report detailing allegations of misconduct against the actor.

TransLink says in a statement that it has decided to pause public announcements voiced by Freeman that had been set to play in parts of the transit system as part of a Visa Canada ad campaign.

“In light of information we’ve learned through news stories this morning of serious allegations against actor Morgan Freeman, TransLink has decided to pause his voice announcements as part of a VISA ad campaign on the transit system. We will be in touch with VISA to discuss further,” TransLink said, in a statement early Thursday.

Freeman issued a statement through his publicist following Thursday's report in which he apologized to anyone who may have felt "uncomfortable or disrespected" by his behaviour.

TransLink says it is consulting with Visa Canada about the Freeman-voiced announcements intended to promote the transit system's new "tap-to-pay" feature.

Visa Canada could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Morgan Freeman–voiced transit announcements were produced by Visa as part of TransLink’s “tap-to-pay” rollout. The campaign featured Freeman’s distinctive voice in a number of recorded transit announcements that were scheduled to be broadcast over the regional SkyTrain system and select bus routes beginning June 4, though some have been aired this week.
