Shivraj Singh Chouhan Had The Best Wedding Gift For Deceased Constable’s Daughter

Darpan News Desk IANS, 10 Dec, 2016 02:17 PM
Playing the role of a guardian, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday welcomed the 'baaratis' at the wedding of the daughter of constable Ramashankar Yadav who was killed by SIMI operatives during jailbreak here in October.

Chouhan first visited the Hallmark Garden in Halalpura around 4 am while he was leaving for Gwalior to take stock of the preparations for the wedding. A sub-divisional magistrate, several tehsildars and other officials were deployed at the venue since morning to oversee the wedding arrangements.

Later in the evening, Chouhan reached there along with co-operatives minister Viswhas Sarang and others around 8.30 and stayed there for nearly an hour. The CM also handed over the recruitment letter to Sonia Yadav, the bride and daughter of late constable Ramashankar Yadav.

She has been appointed as assistant grade III in GAD (general administration department). Later, Chouhan himself went to the gate and welcomed the baaratis as the guardian of Sonia. On Diwali night, Yadav, 56, was killed by SIMI operatives inside Bhopal Central Jail before scaling the prison walls.

He was on 2 am-8 am shift along with another colleague, Chandan Khilante. Both were on rounds when alleged SIMI activists attacked them in the B-Block of the jail. The accused used weapons made of steel plates that were given to them for having meals. After slitting the throat of Yadav, they tied up Khilante with a rope and managed to escape using bed sheets as ropes for climbing up the jail walls.

After attending the wedding, Chouhan tweeted out his heart-felt wishes to the newly-weds. Calling Sonia “daughter of the state”, the chief minister said, “Even though I can’t take the place of a father in Sonia’s life, but by hosting the wedding I have fulfilled the duties of a father.” He further added that a job in the state secratariat will ensure a secure, happy future for Yadav’s daughter.

The state Home Minister Bhupendra Singh had promised that the government would bestow “martyr status” on the slain policeman. The state government also announced monetary compensation for Yadav’s family of Rs 15 lakh, including Rs 5 lakh for Sonia’s marriage.
