PICS: 5-Year-Old Terminally-Ill Girl Marries Her Best Friend Aged Six In This Fairytale Wedding

Darpan News Desk IANS, 21 Jun, 2017 12:34 PM

As she walked down the aisle in a white and pink gown, everyone in the hall beamed. Her best friend and to-be husband waiting for her at the altar looked dapper in a highland dress. The scene was surreal, almost out of a fairtytale.

Only this was not your average wedding. Terminally-ill five-year-old Eileidh Paterson from Scotland, tied the knot with her best friend Harrison Grier, aged six, in a makeshift altar by a procession of costumed superheroes and princesses, as reported by metro.co.uk.

“When you wish upon a star

Makes no difference who you are

Anything your heart desires will come to you...”

The lines from Disney film Pinocchio played in the background as Paterson’s elder brother walked her into the room. A version of Paterson’s life story written in the style of a fairy tale by her mother was read out. “She described her daughter as ‘a princess who would stop at nothing to survive’ while documenting her fight against the aggressive disease,” reported metro.co.u

Grier had never been to a wedding before his own, his father told metro.co.uk, but “it was a beautiful ceremony and he enjoyed every minute. He was quite excited to do it. Ever since he met Eileidh, they have been inseparable.

‘I think he knew what was going on. He certainly knew how important it was to her and wanted to do whatever he could for her,’ said his father.

Once diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that occurs most often often in infants and young children, Paterson drew up a bucket list. Now that she has checked off the most interesting of the list by marrying Harrison, the five-year-old has her sights set on swimming with dolphins, going to a water park, seeing real snow, getting a bedroom makeover and travelling on a plane.

For developing playwrights, Shakespeare's work is incredibly instructive – how he imbeds action in the lines, his over all play structure, his use of dramatic irony, etc. It's all there and no one has ever surpassed him.
