People Love Valentine’s Day As Engagement Or Wedding Day: Survey

IANS, 12 Feb, 2016 11:56 AM
A majority of people would love to have either their engagement or wedding on Valentine’s Day, reveals a new survey.

Of the 1,800 respondents in a survey by online matrimony platform Jeevansaathi.com, 62 percent of them have expressed interest in taking their relationship to a new level on the special day of love.

The online survey was conducted among people from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Lucknow and Dehradun. Out of the 1,800 respondents, 63 percent were men and 27 percent were women. As far as the age is concerned, 66 percent participants were under the age of 30, and 34 percent were over 30.

A lot of people shared their desire to pamper their loved one on Valentine’s Day as 40 percent of the respondents plan to outspend their partner this year on February 14.

While 43 percent men feel they would want to spend more as compared to their valentine on the day for love, only 28 percent of the women surveyed, shared the sentiment.

According to the survey, men clearly understand what women want and are planning to gift what women desire.

On being asked what men and women both expected as a Valentine's Day gift from each other, men had a clear idea about the gifts. Flowers, jewellery, clothing, accessories and weekend trips are some of the gifts women feel they should get, and men answered these questions correctly in the survey.

On the other hand, women respondents answered that men would also like customised gifts and fragrances on the day while most of the men responded that they would like to receive electronics/gadgets and jewellery apart from flowers, clothing and weekend trips.

Commenting on the survey, Sumeet Singh, group chief marketing officer, Info Edge (India) Limited, said: “It’s that time of the year when people are on the lookout for gift ideas for Valentine’s Day. Through this survey, we have tried to figure out trends that emerge when people think of ideas to make this day beautiful.

“The response was huge with people giving very interesting answers to questions they thought added value to the ideas they had while planning for the day.”

Since Valentine’s Day this year falls on a Sunday, 33 percent respondents were planning to relax at home, while only 16 percent were planning an outdoor trip.
