Jamaican Bobsledders Have Reliable Set Of Wheels For Journey To Whistler Race

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 14 Nov, 2016 01:34 PM
CALGARY — The Jamaican bobsled team now has a reliable set of wheels to get from Calgary to its next race.

The vehicle that team members had been planning to take to Whistler, B.C., broke down over the weekend in Calgary and a good Samaritan pulled over to give them rides to their race.

Repair costs were astronomical and the team would have missed its next stop while the van was in the shop.

Vehicle rental company Driving Force got wind of the problem on social media and decided help by providing a 15-seat van and some gas money.

The story of the Jamaican bobsledders showing up as underdogs at the 1988 Calgary Games inspired the Disney movie "Cool Runnings" starring John Candy.

The team plans to leave at 3 a.m. tomorrow to beat some of the bad whether they're expecting in the mountains.
