International Art Fair Promotes City as Global Art Hub

Art! Vancouver, 18 Apr, 2017 12:19 PM

Now in its third year, Art! Vancouver continues to take advantage of an urban stage primed for an international art fair.

The city’s natural beauty, ease of living, cultural diversity and amenities make it ripe for an international art fair, says Lisa Wolfin, director of Art! Vancouver. “After seeing what other cities have done and what we have to offer, it’s clear Vancouver has what it takes to be a destination art hub.”

Over 80 artists and galleries from Europe, Asia, South America, the USA and Canada show original works to an audience of curators, collectors, designers, gallerists, other artists and art lovers from around the globe.

A sampling of this year’s artists includes Ryan King of HGTV’s Carver King’s fame, Janis Project multidisciplinary artist Frank Hyder, Montreal-born Israeli artist Johanan Herson and emerging Georgian artist Ia Liparteliani.

Along with its signature Face of Art gala opener this year Art! Vancouver celebrates Canada’s 150th anniversary through the appreciation of art. CBC Arts TV's Amanda Parris will be hosting the opening night gala on May 25th. Parris will also moderate a panel discussion on Public Art over the course of the weekend, along with experts on the field.

As part of its commitment to the broader community Art! Vancouver continues to support local charity. This year’s recipient is Vancouver based Battered Women’s Support Services. For over 35 years, BWSS has provided counseling to women who have experienced abuse.

Art! Vancouver 2017 runs May 25 – 28, at the Vancouver Convention Centre.  For more information, to register or for advance tickets go to www.artvancouver.net.
