Indian men want women to propose: Survey

Darpan News Desk IANS, 26 Aug, 2014 07:41 AM
Traditionally, it's the guys who pop the question to take a relationship forward but an increasing number of Indian men now prefer if women make the first move, according to a survey.

The survey was conducted on over 6,500 single Indian men in the age group of 25 to 36 across the country, by matrimonial portal Shaadi.com to understand men's take on relationships.

As many as 71.7 percent respondents shared that they would like it if a woman proposed to them instead.

As many as 63.8 percent of the men surveyed were of the opinion that the country's modern day women are confident enough to make the first move towards a relationship, while 36.2 percent of them said that it's hard for them to believe that a woman can make the first move because tradition has always seen men do so, said a statement.

When it came to how men would like to be proposed to by a woman, a majority of 61.2 percent of respondents chose face-to-face interaction. For others, a digital connect was acceptable too.

As many as 21.4 percent of men said they would be okay with a phone conversation, while 9.8 percent of them chose mobile phone application Whatsapp, closely followed by 7.6 percent who said that they would be okay with an expression through Facebook.

"This survey highlights the mindset of today's youth. When it comes to proposing marriage, tradition has always seen men make the first move but it is encouraging to see that most Indian men today believe that women are confident enough to change that," says Gourav Rakshit, chief operating officer, Shaadi.com.
