Have You Heard The Hip-hop Anthem For The North East Yet? It’s Brilliant

IANS, 17 Dec, 2016 03:17 PM
The anthem talks about the social and political issues while suggesting of a revolution that's about to come.

North East’s musicians are famous across the country and now some popular ones have come together to compose what they have titled ‘Anthem For The North East’ which essentially talks about the social and political issues while suggesting of a revolution that’s about to come.

“As a kid, growing up I hardly had shoes on my feet, But I’ve seen bullet holes on church walls and a body in my street, Follow me on a journey down memory lane homie, I grew up around killers throwing parties with heist money,” read the lyrics.

The anthem has been put together by rap artists like Khasi Bloodz, Symphonic Movement, Cryptographik Street Poets and B-boy Kim. What’ll catch your attention is a 13-year-old member of the Symphonic Movement who raps about relevant issues like identity crisis and human rights violations.

The song is a part of the “Hip Hop Homeland Northeast” series which will chronicle popular rapper Feyago’s journey to find and collaborate with the region’s finest underground hip hop talent. The web series will take the audience through individual profiles and stories of how each crew came together for the anthem for the northeast.

The Northeast edition also brings an interesting union of rap and baul (a particular type of folk song from Bengal) music composed by Feyago.

Cyrus Oshidar, Managing Director and Chief Creative Officer, 101India.com, said: “Hip Hop Homeland aims to provide a platform for powerful self expression and attempts to show how kids in India are using hip hop to give voice to a young socially conscious India.”
