Father’s Day Fun on the Lower Niagara River

Darpan News Desk, 02 Jun, 2016 11:31 AM

Once he’s tried on that new necktie or cufflinks, how about taking Dad for a Father’s Day boat ride? Whether your father is an adventure-seeker or the more relaxed type, Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours and its sister company Niagara Sunset Cruises offer unique experiences to make this a Father’s Day to remember.

“Everyone wants Father’s Day to be special, and Mother Nature has given us the perfect setting along the spectacular Lower Niagara River,” said Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours president John Kinney. “Whether you take it fast or slow it’s a remarkable stretch of water, and a great place to spend time with family.”

If fast and furious is Dad’s style, Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours will take him on an unforgettable ride through the Class 5 Devil’s Hole Rapids to just below the incredibly powerful Niagara Whirlpool. Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours gives thrill-seekers a taste of the river’s wild side – 15-20 foot (4.5m-6m) waves, currents approaching 20 mph (32 km/h) – aboard a fleet of eight specially equipped, 50-passenger jet boats.

If Pop prefers a slower pace, there’s the Niagara Belle, a fully restored New Orleans-style paddle wheeler, leisurely cruising along an historic seven-mile stretch of the Lower Niagara River. Sights along the way include historic Fort George and Fort Niagara, the picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, beautiful riverside homes, and an unspoiled natural shoreline stretching from the Niagara Gorge all the way to Lake Ontario.

On Sunday, June 19, from noon to 2 p.m., Dads can soak up the scenery and craft beers aboard the Niagara Belle during a special two-hour Father’s Day Craft Brew and BBQ Cruise, departing from Queenston. More details about the Father’s Day cruise are available here.

“Along the way, tour leaders on the boats give passengers highlights about the river’s geology and fascinating history,” Kinney explained. “Each tour is a one-of-a-kind experience – for your one-of-a-kind father.”
