Captured N.B. Fugitive Marissa Shephard Makes First Court Appearance On Murder And Arson Charges

    MONCTON, N.B. — A young New Brunswick mother who spent two-and-a-half-months as a fugitive has been formally charged with first-degree murder and arson.
     
    Marissa Shephard made her first court appearance Wednesday after being arrested under a Canada-wide warrant without incident outside a hotel in Moncton on Tuesday.
     
    Shephard, 20 is charged in the Dec. 17 killing of 18-year-old Baylee Wylie, whose body was found in a burned-out triplex.
     
    Days after the Moncton blaze, 18-year-old Devin Morningstar was charged with first-degree murder and arson.
     
    Tyler Noel, 18, was arrested on a Canada-wide warrant Jan. 9, in Petitcodiac, N.B., and has also been charged with first-degree murder and arson.
     
    Two people arrested Tuesday with Shephard — Krystle Toole, 32, and Stephen Nagle, 22 — have been charged with being accessories after the fact to first-degree murder for aiding Shephard. Nagle is the father of Shephard's young son.
     
    Shephard's next court appearance is set for March 18.
