Break-ups can shoo away your Twitter followers

Darpan News Desk IANS, 06 Oct, 2014 05:18 AM
If you have gone through break-up woes recently, be ready to lose your twitter followers too.

According to a study, break-ups can predict a loss of followers on social media.

For the study, researchers analysed data from 80,000 users identified as couples.

They tracked these users from November 2013 to April 2014, filtered the data and arrived at a group of 661 pairs, who had been in a relationship but had broken up.

The result was shocking: not only did the communication between these couples decrease as they neared break-up, both people on either end of a break-up tended to lose 15 to 20 Twitter followers in the aftermath.

It might be because of formerly mutual friends taking sides, the study said.

"It is also possible that the upsurge in 'depressed' tweets might drive away some followers," the Daily Dot website noted, quoting the authors.
