Bizarre! Doctors Remove Massive Lump Of Hair From 16-Year-Old Girl's Stomach In Dehradun

Darpan News Desk IANS, 13 Jul, 2017 01:37 PM
In a shocking incident, doctors have removed a massive lump of hair, as big as the size of a melon, from the stomach of a 16-year-old girl in Dehradun.

According to a report in Daily Mail, Aakansha Kumari had an addiction of eating her hair and had been doing it for the past several years. Her addiction left her unable to eat and even caused her to throw out frequently.

It was after her weight fell drastically, her parents realised that something was not right with their daughter.

As per the report, the mass of hair had apparently occupied 80 percent of space in her stomach, that apparently caused her to lose interest in eating.

The 16-year-old has been diagnosed with Rapunzel syndrome, a rare condition in which a hairball (called a trichobezar) is found in the stomach, with its tail in the colon.

An open surgery was conducted at Doon Medical College and Hospital, in Dehradun by gastro surgeon Dr Abhay Kumar and his team on the girl.

Speaking to Daily Mail, Kumar said, "The hairball occupied 250 ml to 300 ml of space in the stomach. And this was causing her to lose interest in eating. The surgery was challenging because we had to extract the hairball in one go."

The girl is recovering and doing much better after surgery.
