Bears Wander Into Northern Ontario Restaurant, Sow Killed, Cubs Taken To Sanctuary

The Canadian Press, 09 Sep, 2016 12:08 PM
TERRACE BAY, Ont. — Police say they recently had to put down a bear who wandered into a northern Ontario restaurant with her cubs.

Ontario Provincial Police say they were called to the restaurant in Terrace Bay on Wednesday after the animals entered an open back door and started causing damage.

They say the restaurant was occupied at the time, but employees managed to close a door before the sow and her two cubs could approach customers.

Police say the mother bear had to be killed, while the cubs were captured by officials with the Ministry of Natural Resources and relocated to a bear sanctuary.

They say all customers were safely evacuated from the restaurant and no one was injured.
