As Feds Consider Bombardier's Plea, Notley Calls On Ottawa To Support Alberta

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 21 Feb, 2016 02:16 PM
OTTAWA — With the federal government considering aid for aerospace giant Bombardier — Alberta Premier Rachel Notley is calling for more support in her province.

Notley told CTV's Question Period Sunday that all Canadians benefit from a strong Alberta economy — which is struggling amid stubbornly low energy prices.

She says wants Ottawa to adjust the employment insurance program to broaden access for laid-off energy workers and extend how long benefits are available.

Notley also says the federal government must follow through with its pledge to provide a robust injection of infrastructure spending as a way to create jobs and boost the economy.

She says Ottawa should also build an integrated, nationwide energy strategy that will ensure Alberta products get to tidewater in an environmentally responsible way.

The Montreal-based manufacturer Bombardier is seeking financial aid from Ottawa for its troubled CSeries aircraft line — which is behind schedule and over budget.
