5th Anniversary of the Opus Kids’ Art Exhibition

Darpan News Desk, 30 Jun, 2016 05:06 PM
  • 5th Anniversary of the Opus Kids’ Art Exhibition
This year, Opus Art Supplies is celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the Opus Kids’ Art Exhibition – a fundraiser benefiting BC Children’s Hospital’s Creative Art Program. Throughout British Columbia, children aged 12 years and under are invited to participate in this inspirational and creative exhibit that truly sees kids helping kids. Starting July 1 through 31, 2016 budding artists can visit any Opus Art Supplies store, (located in Downtown Vancouver, Granville Island, Kelowna, North Vancouver, Victoria and Langley) to pick up an 8" × 8" Buzz Canvas Panel for a suggested minimum donation of $1 and unleash their creativity for a cause.

An event that brings kids of all walks of life together to celebrate the arts and share their creativity, the Opus Kids’ Art Exhibition saw more than 600 children participate last year alone. More than $3300.00 in donations were raised in 2015 for the BC Children Hospital’s Child Life Department’s Creative Art Program – a meaningful, donor-funded program that provides an artistic escape for young patients and their families dealing with ongoing health and medical issues and both short and long-term hospital stays.

Exploration and fun are encouraged and children are welcome to try out any artistic discipline (sketch, paint, collage, draw or even sculpt their masterpiece onto the canvas). Completed artwork must be submitted to their local Opus store by Sunday, July 31 where it will be displayed as part of a province-wide exhibition August 1 -14, 2016. All exhibitors will be entered for a chance to have their artwork custom framed to their specifications.

While visiting the exhibition, members of the public are invited to vote for their favourite artwork from August 1–14, 2016. The piece with the most votes at each Opus store will receive the People’s Choice Award and a $25 Opus Gift Card. Voters will be entered to win a $25 Opus Gift Card, too!

This exciting event helps nurture and encourage young artists everywhere, celebrating the spirit of philanthropy through creativity across the province. Help foster this by picking up a canvas at a local Opus store today and returning a completed artwork before July 31, and then visiting the exhibition between August 1–14 to encourage and support the next generation of artists while supporting the Creative Art Program at the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Child Life Department.
