Yoga To Be Introduced In Primary Schools In Goa

Darpan News Desk IANS, 09 Aug, 2016 11:50 AM
Yoga would be taught in primary schools in Goa, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today told the Legislative Assembly.

"We have decided to introduce yoga at primary level. For this we have decided to appoint 60 master resource persons," he said on demands for grants for the education department.

The Chief Minister, who holds the education portfolio among others, also said the ratio of students in primary schools (total number of children born in the state against those enrolled in schools) is 103, which means even the migrants who arrive in Panaji enrol their children in schools.

Stating that his government took a holistic view of the education, the Chief Minister said infrastructure facilities in primary schools were upgraded.

"In the last two years, 204 government primary schools were repaired and refurbished, spending Rs. 41 crore," he said.

The government is concerned about the declining number of students in state-run primary schools, but hopes that with upgraded infrastructure more students would enroll, he said.
