Ambala police have arrested two men after a video, in which they were seen beating a Sikh man, went viral on social media on Sunday.
The victim has been identified as Harjeet Singh, a truck driver from Tarn Taran district of Punjab, while the two accused have been identified as Kamaljeet and Abhay Chauhan of Mullana.
Reportedly Harjeet was on his way to Yamunanagar from Ambala on Saturday in a bus when he got engaged in a verbal spat with the accused.
When the bus reached Mullana, the accused thrashed Harjeet and fled away. Meanwhile, Harjeet boarded the same bus and went towards Yamunanagar.
A video of the incident went viral on Sunday. Later in the evening, Kamaljeet, released a video and claimed that Harjeet was drunk, he slapped a small kid of his village and abused him.
“They were three in number. When I tried to stop them, they misbehaved with me and tore my t-shirt. They wanted to make it a communal issue but there was nothing like that. I had no intentions to disrespect the Sikh man. It could be confirmed from the other passengers that it was not my fault,” Kamaljeet said.
On the other hand, Harjeet, has also released a video today. “The accused was moving briskly in the bus and hit some ladies and also hit my turban. When I asked him to move carefully, he said fine and sat behind me. Later they started beating me. They said that I was drunk while I don’t drink. They called some more people and assaulted me near Mullana. It was not my fault,” he says in the video.
Meanwhile, SGPC and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee members met Superintendent of Police Abhishek Jorwal and sought strict action against the accused. They sought inclusion of Section 295 (a) and 307 of the IPC in the case.
DSP Barara Anil Kumar said, “Two accused have been arrested while the third has been identified as Bhura. Section 295 (a) and 307 of the IPC has been included and further investigation was on.”
