Uber Rape Victim Screamed For 30 Minutes, But No Police Came

Darpan News Desk IANS, 09 Dec, 2014 12:30 PM
She was slapped, threatened and sexually assaulted for 30 minutes inside a car parked on a secluded bridge here. But the cries of the 25-year-old working woman who was raped fell on deaf ears, as no one, including the patrolling police, came for help.

This revelation was made by the rapist driver, Shiv Kumar Yadav, before the investigators.

He said he parked the swift Dzire at Zakira bridge - just a few meters away from the crowded Inderlok Metro Station - raped the business analyst and then dropped her home.
Yadav said he slapped the woman thrice and also threatened to insert an iron rod in her private parts.

"The woman...kept crying," the accused driver said.

The woman was returning home in north Delhi's Inderlok area after attending a party with her friends in Gurgaon. A friend dropped her at south Delhi's Vasant Vihar area, from where she boarded the cab, driven by Yadav.

The small two-way bridge, which joins Moti Nagar to Keshavpuram, Bharat Nagar and Sarai Rohilla, is around one kilometer long. The locality near the bridge is inhabited by people with low incomes.

Three police stations - Keshavpuram, Bharat Nagar and Sarai Rohilla - are also located within a 1.5 kilometers radius from the spot. The stretch falls under the jurisdiction of Sarai Rohilla police station.

At least five police control room vehicles were patrolling the area on the fateful Friday night, but none of them checked the stretch. In fact, the victim's house is also located just two kilometers from the spot.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Brijinder Singh Yadav said: "We deploy our men where ever and whenever it is necessary. The dark spots have been identified, and our men will be deployed soon."

The victim, after being raped was dropped back home by the driver, who fled from the city after the crime. He was arrested from Mathura Sunday. He has remanded to three days police custody.
