Toddler Falls Into 60-Ft Borehole In Hisar Village, Rescue Operation On

IANS, 20 Mar, 2019 07:31 PM

A one-and-a-half-year-old boy fell into a nearly 60-ft deep borehole near a ‘dhani’ located on the outskirts of Balsamand village, about 30 km from Hisar town, on Wednesday evening.

The district authorities have started the rescue operation. Also, the help has been sought from the Army.

Villagers raised the alarm after Nadeem, son of Azam Khan, who was playing near his house in the fields accidently slipped into the borehole. They said the borehole of about 10-inch diameter was dug recently to install a tubewell for irrigation purpose.

Ishwar Laura, a villager, said the boy was playing with some other children when he slipped into the open borehole. Other children raised the alarm after which villagers called police.

Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Meena has rushed to the spot along with SP Shiv Charan. The fire brigade has started the rescue work.

Meena told mediapersons that the child has been spotted inside the borehole and the supply of oxygen has been provided. “He is doing fine. The rescue operation has started with the help of the Army. The earthmovers have started working. It will take some time to rescue the child,” said the DC who is supervising the operation.

Another villager, Mahender Singh, said the borehole was dug about a week ago by a farmer to irrigate fields. “The borehole was open as the pipes are yet to be placed in it. The senior district officials and Army officers are at the spot. I am hopeful that the child will be rescued and reunited with his parents.”
