Three Women Held In Punjab Carrying Habit-Forming Drugs

Darpan News Desk IANS, 09 Aug, 2019 07:32 PM

The Punjab Special Task Force (STF) to combat drugs on Friday arrested three women on a charge of possessing habit-forming pharmaceutical drugs.

This is for the first time that drugs have been seized from women in the state.

They were arrested during checks in Fazilka town, some 300 km from here, and over 1,000 drug tablets were seized from them. One of the smugglers is still absconding.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Harpinder Kaur Gill told the media two of them are sisters and the third one belongs to their close-knit family.

She said they were trying to ascertain whether the culprits were involved in selling these drug-laced tablets or were procured for consumption.

Punjab has 31 government-run deaddiction centres but only one exclusively for women, which is located in Kapurthala town.
