Sunanda Pushkar Murder Mystery: Tharoor may be questioned soon

Darpan News Desk IANS, 12 Jan, 2015 10:03 AM
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor may be questioned soon in connection with his wife Sunanda Pushkar's murder, Delhi Police chief B.S. Bassi said Monday.

"I know Tharoor is in Delhi. Our SIT (Special Investigation Team) is working on the case, and if they require, they will call him (Tharoor) soon," Bassi told the media.

Tharoor reached Delhi Sunday from Kerala, where he was undergoing ayurvedic rejuvenation. Pushkar, 52, was found dead in a luxury hotel here Jan 17, 2014. Police have said she was poisoned to death.

In response to a question, Bassi said Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar, whose friendship with Tharoor had reportedly led to a row between him and Pushkar, may also be questioned if needed.

Pushkar was found dead just days after an open spat on Twitter drew attention to the couple's personal life and Tarar.

According to media reports, Pushkar also wanted to reveal something on Indian Premiere League (IPL) spot-fixing.

Bassi said there was no tempering with any evidence inside the hotel's room where Pushkar was found murdered.

On the letter recently written by Tharoor to Delhi Police, Bassi said: "I got the letter but (I) need not give him (Tharoor) a reply."

"Everybody has a right to say and speak," he said.

Bassi said the SIT was investigating the case and sincerely looking into each and every aspect. He said the team will reach to its logical conclusion soon.

He said the process of sending Pushkar's viscera abroad for ascertaining the poisonous substance and its quantity was on.
