Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal will lead a delegation to Dubai on board the first international flight from Chandigarh which will fly to Sharjah tomorrow.
Chandigarh will get its international flight which will be run by Air India to Sharjah tomorrow. Later this month, a private carrier will operatre a flight to Dubai from Chandigarh.
The 18-member CII delegation, which will accompany Sukhbir, will be a part of a roadshow in Dubai to explore areas of mutual interest to enhance trade ties between India and UAE, a CII release said in Chandigarh today.
Prominent members of the Confederation of Indian Industry Northern Region will be part of the Punjab government delegation, it said.
The CII industry members will be part of a roadshow and B2B meetings to be held over the two-day tour.
"The CII delegation members will explore areas of mutual interest to enhance trade ties between the two regions," said Gurmeet Bhatia, Vice-Chairman, CII Punjab State Council.
"India maintains a special relationship with the UAE because it has been its top trading partner as well as a strategically important country. In the last few years, India and the UAE have signed a number of agreements and MoUs in all possible areas of mutual interests, including trade and investment," he said.
"Non-oil trade between the two countries has a higher proportion in the overall trade and it is here that we need to concentrate our efforts," he said.
