Spurned Suitor Held For Raping Girl, Killing Her Cousin In Delhi

Darpan News Desk IANS, 01 Dec, 2015 12:59 PM
A 22-year-old labourer who raped a teenaged girl after she declined his marriage proposal and attacked and killed her younger cousin who tried to rescue her has been arrested, police said on Tuesday.

Raj Kumar, a resident of Bihar, was arrested on Friday from a cement godown in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur city where he fled after committing the crime and started working.

"Kumar raped the 17-year-old girl inside her house in Swaroop Nagar in west Delhi on November 14. When the victim's eight-year-old brother came to rescue her, the accused attacked both with an iron rod," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijay Singh.

The boy died on the spot. While the girl received seriously injuries, she is now stated to be out of danger, he added.

The official said Kumar, who has been residing in Delhi for over a year, shifted to Swaroop Nagar just 12 days before he committed the crime.

"He came in contact with the girl's family but was spurned in his one-sided love. He took revenge when she rejected his marriage proposal," he said.
