On Friday according to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) Ex Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini has further dug himself a hole in Section 302 of the IPC in the case of disappearance of a former CITCO employee, Balwant Singh Multani.
According to court orders, the SIT had given Saini a 3 day window before adding Section 302 to the filed FIR.
Two ex police officers Inspector Jagir Singh and Assistant Sub Inspector Kuldeep Singh registered in their statement in court to have been eyewitnesses to the torture to Multani under custody of former DGP Saini and later transporting him to a vehicle in an unconscious state.
They also reported that later that day they were told that Multani went missing. The two ex policemen also allegedly told court that they were asked to declare Multani as missing as they were following orders of DGP.
3 former cops Inspector Jagir Singh, Sub Inspector Harsahai Sharma and Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Kuldeep Singh had filed an application in the judiciary asking permission to be pardoned in the ongoing investigation against them in the Multani case.
The request was turned down by the court on August 7th. The SIT with the aid of special public prosecutor Sartej Singh Narula and district attorney Sanjiv Batra on August 14 had moved an application on behalf of the three accused to declare them approved after which the court decided two out of three as approved.
According to the court Inspector Jagir Singh is also co-accused along with Inspector Anokh Singh in another FIR registered at Kharar Sadar police station on July 27 on charges of fabricating the evidences.
In another FIR registered at Mataur police station the 2 former cops Anokh Singh and Jagir Singh are also co accused against DGP Sumedh Singh Saini.
Inspector Anokh Singh was remanded by Mohali police for 3 days and sent to judicial custody. Anokh Singh and Jagir Singh have been granted bail.
